With everything happening in the world, so much was bound to get lost in the shuffle at the start of the year.

That’s why I decided to round up both January and February’s new mystery and true crime adaptations in one place.

After all, the beauty of streaming is that these gripping stories are still there, waiting for you when you have time to watch them.

So here’s a two-month rundown of the latest mystery, thriller, and true crime adaptations now streaming.

There’s something for everyone—whether you love Sherlock Holmes reimaginings, true crime-inspired scammer series, police procedurals, or deep dives into the prison system.

A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – Watson

Move over, Sherlock; it’s Watson’s time to shine! CBS brings a fresh take on the classic detective duo in Watson, where Sherlock and Watson are ambushed by Moriarty.

Sherlock dies, and Watson wakes from a coma to lead a team of doctors solving medical mysteries—while concealing a mystery of his own.

Of course, Moriarty is still lurking in the shadows.

New episodes air on CBS, with streaming available on Paramount+.

Scam Goddess: Lessons from a Life of Cons, Grifts, and Schemes by Laci Mosley

Based on the popular podcast and true crime memoir, Scam Goddess delivers a mix of comedy, travel, and crime. Laci Mosley explores cases of con artists who scammed millions, from a high-society equestrian fraudster to a self-proclaimed “tech guru.”

The six-episode docuseries is now streaming.

Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by Sunil Gupta & Sunetra Choudhury

This adaptation takes viewers inside India’s notorious Tihar Jail. Co-author Sunil Gupta, who worked in the prison for 35 years, witnessed corruption firsthand and oversaw eight hangings.

The series follows rookie officer Zahan Kapoor as he discovers the dark truths behind the prison system and a privileged serial killer.

The seven-episode series is now available for streaming.

Hidden in Snow by Viveca Sten (translated by Marlaine Delargy)

Based on The Åre Murders series, this Swedish police procedural follows suspended officer Hanna Ahlander as she retreats to Åre for a fresh start—only to get entangled in a missing persons case that the understaffed local police are struggling to solve.

You can stream the six-episode series on Netflix.

The Woman Who Fooled the World by Beau Donelly & Nick Toscano – Apple Cider Vinegar

Rather than a direct adaptation, this series is inspired by the book’s true story of a fraudulent wellness empire.

In Apple Cider Vinegar, a young woman in Melbourne fakes a miraculous recovery from brain cancer through social media, manipulating the wellness industry and its devoted followers.

A six-episode limited series now streaming on Netflix.
